    Bahraini Visual Artist

Asghar Ismail is a self-taught artist who began his artistic journey in the 1970s, actively participating in numerous exhibitions during that formative period. He was part of one of the earliest artistic gatherings in Bahrain, Usrat Huwat Al-Fann (The Art Enthusiasts Group), which brought together visual artists, alongside practitioners in theatre and music.

In 1973, he joined the Bahrain Contemporary Art Society, and he is currently a member of the Bahrain Arts Society. Throughout his career, he has participated in the majority of local exhibitions, as well as a wide range of international shows.

His artistic interests extend to graphic art and sculpture, particularly wood and stone carving. Notably, he participated in the Bahrain International Sculpture Symposium in 2011.

Over the course of his practice, Asghar has explored a wide range of themes rooted in Bahraini culture and heritage, capturing scenes of everyday life, the simplicity of local communities, and the relationship with the sea and traditional boats. Women hold a central place in his work—serving as a powerful symbol and representing half of society—an element that has become especially prominent in his recent artworks.
