Adnan Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Ahmad
Born in Muharraq in 1960, Kingdom of Bahrain.
He works at the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities.
He graduated from the School of Fine Arts (Beaux-Arts) in Besançon, France. In 1987, he obtained the Higher National Diploma in Plastic and Expressive Arts in Applied Fine Arts from Besançon, France.
He is a member of the Bahrain Arts Society.
Born and raised in the Fareej Bin Khater area in Muharraq, he completed his secondary education in 1979. He was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Education to study Fine Arts in France. From that moment, his journey in visual arts began in Besançon.
During his academic studies at the School of Fine Arts, he was introduced to various art movements, classical and modern techniques, and art history. He studied the works of prominent international artists who shaped both classical and modern art history. As a student in France, he participated in several exhibitions in Loue, Montbéliard, and Besançon with the “New Art” group in Besançon.
While in France, he visited Paris regularly and eventually settled there during the final stage of his studies to attend specialized courses. This period allowed him to spend long hours daily in Parisian museums, particularly the Louvre Museum, the Georges Pompidou Center for Modern Art, the Musée d’Orsay, and many other museums throughout Paris. He deeply immersed himself in art and artistic culture, studying both classical and academic art.
Through this experience, he was able to define a clear artistic direction and develop a distinctive artistic identity—one of the main objectives of his academic and philosophical exploration of art techniques and concepts. He committed himself to continuing his artistic journey after graduation on solid foundations of experience, knowledge, and artistic culture.
After graduating from the Beaux-Arts in Besançon in 1987 and obtaining his Higher National Diploma, he spent his final academic year in Paris—a highly important phase in shaping his artistic personality and final artistic formation before returning to Bahrain. He graduated in 1987 and returned to Bahrain in 1988–1989.
He worked as an art education teacher in Bahrain’s schools and later became a curriculum supervisor for art education. During this period, he participated in several exhibitions organized by the Ministry of Education and served on various artistic committees for educational and artistic activities.
On January 11, 1989, he joined the Bahrain Arts Society, marking the official beginning of his career as a Bahraini visual artist. Through this platform, he became acquainted with the local art scene and the pioneering artists who preceded him. He held deep admiration and respect for their achievements and aspired to reach similar artistic stature within Bahrain’s visual arts movement.
His first major participation was in the Annual Fine Arts Exhibition held on the occasion of the opening of the King Fahd Causeway in 1988. From that moment, his artistic journey gained momentum. He participated in numerous exhibitions organized by the Ministry of Information (now the Ministry of Culture) inside and outside Bahrain, as well as in many exhibitions of the Bahrain Arts Society since joining in 1989.
He served as Secretary General of the Bahrain Arts Society during the seventh term (1996–1998) and the ninth term (2000–2002). In 2002, he held his first solo exhibition at the Bahrain Arts Society headquarters in Budaiya.
He participated in several jury and selection committees for art exhibitions locally and internationally. He also prepared a documentary publication about the late artist Rashid Al Suwar as part of the Bahrain Arts Society publications. He organized an artistic trip to Paris for society members to visit major museums and attend exhibitions.
Among the most notable international exhibitions he helped organize or participate in were the Bahrain Arts Society exhibition in Paris and Cannes (France), Euro Art in Geneva, exhibitions in Singapore, and in Miami, USA.
He has received several awards and certificates of appreciation locally and internationally. Among the most significant awards are:
-The Golden Brush Award at the 12th Kuwait International Biennial (1996).
-An Appreciation Award at the 24th Annual Fine Arts Exhibition at the Bahrain National Museum (1995).
-An Appreciation Award at the 29th Annual Fine Arts Exhibition (2002).

He believes art is destiny and life—an experience he lives fully, expressing his emotions, thoughts, and personal experiences through each artwork. For him, art is dialogue, magic, intellect, and an endless source of discovery.
